Internship Farm Science Review

Job Title: Marketing Intern

Drone School

Throughout my summer, I have been studying for the unmanned aircraft exam to be able to fly drones at the show. I mainly worked on a practice site called MZeroA Online Ground School, which my supervisor used to pass his test. I was lucky enough to fly a few times with my supervisor throughout the summer. My first time flying was during planting season, and I took the picture shown on the right. When at Farm Science Review, I fly their drone, which is a DJI Air 2S. Since taking on this new adventure in the sky, I have also bought my drone. Flying a drone for agricultural marketing purposes is amazing. The shots these drones can get are clear, smooth, and most importantly, eye-catching.

CFAES Marketing Team

In the past, I would work with a media company based in Springfield, OH, called Shift-ology. They handled the majority of our social media posting and graphic design. Starting this summer, the CFAES team took over the Farm Science Review social media. Whenever I had a post designed, I would have to communicate with Julia to get that approved and on the calendar. I would also have to work with her when they needed pictures or ideas for a post. Most of my communication was via email or Teams. We did have Zoom meetings sometimes. This was a good experience because I look at it as a corporate marketing structure. Learning how to communicate with a different location with approval systems and different ideas was a positive experience.

Weekly Photos

Throughout my summer, I tasked myself with putting together a "time lapse" of our crop growth here at Farm Science Review. Every Thursday, I would spend a few hours taking photos of the same fields every week. The photos shown are just four I took. This is the field across from the grain facility. I photographed four fields every week in the same place. This was a great excuse for me to get out of the office and into the fields.

Create Short Form Content

At Farm Science Review, my job was mainly to work with short-form content. Creating videos is where I enjoy media the most. I created a few videos, but most of them are to be posted closer to the show. One that did get posted was the planting video, where I highlighted that planting was done and shared some growth updates. I was able to use the videos I took of my first time flying a drone as well. I plan on having more of my videos posted in the next month as we get closer to the show. Click the button below to see the Farm Science Review TikTok account.

Company’s marketing teams

One of my favorite things about this job was working with other marketing teams from other companies. The emails and photos to the right were from my favorite event the show had this summer. JCB as a company is amazing to work with. Madi was so nice and appreciative of my work. I also worked with magazines and news businesses. I repeatedly worked with Dan from Wilson 1 Communications. Building these connections helps grow my knowledge so much. I especially see some of these connections creating other opportunities in my future.
